When living in Greece, I came across different types of balms (there they are known as kerilifi) at the farmer’s market.  The traditional keralifi is made with local olive oil, beeswax, and st. john’s wort oil.  Keralifi (balm) is a staple in the Greek homes and seriously magic in a jar. There is a reason it works!

Retains Moisture

One of the main ingredients in the balm is beeswax.  Beeswax forms a protective barrier on the skin to help lock in moisture and protect your skin from environmental irritants and toxins – but still allowing your skin to breathe. And a bonus  – even when you wash your hands a lot the balm won’t completely wash off like a lotion, so you don’t have to keep reapplying!

Deep Conditioning

Balms are formulated with all-natural potent ingredients full of antioxidants and vitamins to hydrate the skin, lock in moisture, and restore skin smoothness.  You can use the balm all over your body or sparingly in dry places.  Balms are great for feet, elbows, and those tough dry patches of skin.

Tip: Put balm on your feet at night and cover with a sock for some intense moisturizing!

Pure & Clean

A little goes a long way! Balms are created with the purest ingredients, no fillers, no preservatives, or water. They are perfect for your non-toxic lifestyle.  You only need a little bit at a time to effectively nourish and protect your skin.  Balms tend to last approximately 50% longer than lotions because you don’t need as much with every application.

Safer Alternative Petroleum Jelly

Petroleum Jelly is made from non-renewable source (it is a derivative of oil refining).  Although, like beeswax, it helps to protect your skin from harsh environments, it is not breathable like beeswax and will clog pores.  It doesn’t have any known healing properties, unlike beeswax and other balm ingredients.  It doesn’t absorb into the skin which often leaves you with a greasy feeling.

Travel Friendly

Balms, unlike lotions, are not considered a liquid and therefore are TSA friendly! Plus, depending on the formula, they can be used to tame your hair frizz and used as a face moisturizer.

Balms can the formulated for face or just for the body or for healing – part of the reason they are so great!  Are you using a balm now?  If so, what for?  Have you tried our balms?
